Tesla Wins Approval to Roll Out Supervised Full Self-Driving Software in Croatia

Tesla has received a regulatory approval to deploy its supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in Croatia. With this the automaker is set rollout its advanced driver-assistance technology across Europe. The company said on September 29 that the system is expected to become available across Croatia soon.

Croatia is a major part of the growing group of European markets, where Tesla’s supervised FSD system has received approval. The system was approved by The Netherlands earlier this year, followed by Belgium and several other countries, while neighboring Slovenia granted approval earlier in September.

Tesla’s supervised FSD system can control vehicle speed and steering but still requires the driver to remain attentive and ready to intervene. The company needs a broader regulatory approval as it expands the technology across Europe.

The European market launch remains subject to regulatory scrutiny, as the European Transport Safety Council and several EU member states have raised concerns over aspects of the technology specially the system’s ability to operate above detected speed limits.

Tesla has said the European expansion of FSD is important to its efforts to increase sales and regain market share amid intensifying competition from Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturers. An EU-wide decision, initially expected in October, has been delayed, with the next apparent opportunity for a vote not expected before December.

EU-wide approval would require a qualified majority of at least 15 of the bloc’s 27 member states, representing at least 65% of the EU’s population.
